If you have chandeliers lighting the foyers, ballrooms or halls of your business, then you know how important it is to hire a professional chandelier cleaner in NYC. Chandeliers aren’t like any other kind of light fixture. They are delicate, unique and they don’t just light a room, they create an atmosphere that tells your clients how important they are to you. And no chandelier creates an atmosphere or makes a style statement quite like a Baccarat crystal chandelier.
In 1764, a royal decree by Louis XV of France established the ‘Compagnie des Cristalleries de Baccarat,’ a glassworks, in the town of Baccarat in the Lorraine region of France. In 1823, Baccarat was awarded the gold medal at the National Exhibition of Industrial Products – the first in a long series of awards the company would be given. Louis XVIII, who was visiting the exhibition, was so impressed with ‘the finish, the beauty of the work’ that many prestigious commissions followed including the creation of a crystal service for the ceremonial tables of the Tuileries Palace.
In 1827, Baccarat introduced its first collection of chandelier elements, each chiseled like precious stones. By 1839, it was experimenting with innovations in color that would add Baccarat red and 24-carat gold powder to the Baccarat chandelier color palette. In 1840, Baccarat produced its most sumptuous chandelier, Zénith, which combined simplicity of form with an abundance of cut-crystal elements. With exhibitions at the 1855 and 1867 World’s Fairs in Paris, Baccarat gained international fame and admiration, leading to a flood of international commissions.
In 1916, designer Georges Chevalier joined Baccarat and his timeless, avant garde designs propelled Baccarat into the modern era. From the 1920s, Baccarat would become the crystal maker to the famous – from movie stars to heads of state, from goblets designed for the inauguration of Franklin D. Roosevelt to a table service designed for the wedding of Josephine Baker. Baccarat crystal, in the form of clocks, perfume bottles, vases, goblets and chandeliers, was in demand around the globe.
The 1970s saw Baccarat trending toward more organic forms and pop art colors while the 1990s saw the introduction of Baccarat jewelry. In 2000, Baccarat updated its 19th century chandelier designs for a modern world. To celebrate its 250th anniversary, the Museum of Beaux-Arts of the City of Paris presented a retrospective exhibition of over 500 Baccarat crystal pieces from October 2014 to January 2015.
